Rooted is the result of a merger between Community Groundworks and Center for Resilient Cities (CRC). In forging a new brand to represent the new organization, Rooted also required a new website.

Merging two organizations is tough work and the total project took about 18 months. Early on, I worked closely with staff from both Community Groundworks and CRC to work through the website’s navigation, user interface and aesthetic to ensure it reflected the needs of the new organization.

With an initial design selected, I created a one-page starter website as the organizations were driven to launch a barebones website late in the year to announce their merger and take advantage of year-end giving. Once the new organization was announced, staff worked through structuring Rooted and developing content for the new website. The website was built on a staging site, with updates pushed live as staff finalized and approved content over the next 12 months.

This website required a fair amount of custom coding to ensure integrated tools were on brand.

When the website was complete, I provided online training and written documentation to ensure staff could administer the site. I continue to support Rooted with as-needed website support

Amanda worked with us on developing our website while we were in the midst of a merger and rebranding process. She was able to translate our evolving organization into an easily navigable website. Her design work is thoughtful and creative, and she remained flexible and patient as our goals and concepts shifted and came into focus. She listened to and incorporated our preferences while always being clear about best practices and her professional recommendations. The comprehensive guide that she left us with has become my most-used work document, though I never feel as if it is my only lifeline because Amanda has remained available and engaged to help us make sure that our website evolves seamlessly with our programmatic needs. And, best of all, she is fun to work with and easy to brainstorm with.
