Milwaukee Riverkeeper is a science-based advocacy organization working for swimmable, fishable rivers throughout the Milwaukee River Basin. Staff originally reached out for assistance with their former WordPress website. Due to neglected updates and unsupported plugins, the website was malfunctioning and staff sought advice on how to best proceed. After some troubleshooting, it was determined that fixing the existing website would be more challenging and time-consuming than starting fresh, especially with an anticipated refresh of the brand.
I worked closely with the organization’s communications manager to develop the website’s look and feel, improve the user interface and refine the navigation to ensure the new website met Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s goals. With two months left in the project’s timeline, the communications manager announced she was taking a position with a new organization. Together, we developed a plan to finalize and launch the website on a compressed timeline.
The new website included integrations with the organization’s advocacy CRM, fundraising platform and a beach health tool, which originally proved challenging. Ultimately, the site was user-tested and delivered on the new timeline, and with Milwaukee Riverkeeper’s new branding.
